Should Infertility treatments include Acupuncture ?

Are you the couple who has been trying to get pregnant for more than 6 months, but nothing happened. Wondering what were the problems? What should you do to fix it?

Here are the possible reasons why: 

1. Problems with the eggs or releasing an egg (ovulating).
2. Problems with the uterus or the fallopian tubes. This may be caused by things like endometriosis or pelvic inflammatory disease.
3. Miscarriages happen early on, before people realize they're pregnant.
4. Problems with the sperm. These problems may include how sperm is made, how it functions, or how it moves.
5. Not have sex at the right time.

Now you know what you should do next? Yes, test. Tests include male test and female test, yes, that is right , both sides need to be tested. Infertility is not only one side ( girl side) problems. Talk to your primary health care provider -physician to start your test.

Once the test finds out the reason for your infertility, your doctor will guide you to the next step - treatment options, here are the treatments that are available from the primary health care system. 

1. Medicine that helps with releasing an egg (ovulating): Oral medications Oral meds like Clomid and letrozole are used to stimulate the ovaries and correct irregular ovulation. Both drugs work by suppressing estrogen production, which boosts the production of ovulation-stimulating hormones. If oral medications don’t work, there are hormone shots called gonadotropins that directly stimulate ovulation.
2. Surgery for a problem caused by endometriosis or blocked fallopian tubes, treat original conditions such as pelvic inflammatory disease.
3. Intrauterine insemination (IUI), a procedure that puts sperm directly inside the uterus (insemination).
4. In vitro fertilization (IVF)

So, what is acupuncture’s role in this fertility care? Although most information found on the internet does not mention acupuncture as  primary treatment option, but acupuncture as a process-oriented method of medical intervention, can assist any stage of infertility treatment mentioned above, and apply to  all reasons that cause infertility other than blocked fallopian tubes and any other kind of deformity of the reproductive system. Acupuncture can assist the conventional infertility treatment success rate.

Another condition that can benefit from acupuncture is multiple miscarriages with no reason found. Based on our clinical experience over the decades , acupuncture helps the body to carry the baby through the full term, even though some moms had over 11 miscarriages in her history.

And not all infertility problems can be treated. But when it can, adding acupuncture to your treatment journey is worthwhile on top of a 30-40K IVF procedure. So, acupuncture is an important add on treatment procedure. It does play an important role in maintaining , supporting embryo implantation in order  to increase the success rate of IVF . 

It can be stressful to find out the reason for infertility. Knowing where the problem is may create feelings of guilt and blame and may put strain on your relationship. Not being able to find any cause can also create stress. Acupuncture can help relieve stress.
